UNILAG Concludes 5-Day Workshop on Academic Research Writing for Nigerian Universities

The 5-day Workshop on Building Academic Research Writing Capacity in Nigerian Universities drew to a close on Friday, August 15, 2025 with a brief closing ceremony at the Sustainable Procurement Environmental and Social Standards Centre of Excellence (SPESSCE), University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The event was graced by the Dean, Faculty of Computing and Informatics, UNILAG, Prof. A. B. Adewole and Head, Department of Computer Sciences, Dr. Chika Yinka-Banjo. In his remarks, Prof. Adewole conveyed the appreciation of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, to the co-facilitator Prof. Christine Feak of the University of Michigan, commending her dedication throughout the workshop. He emphasized the need for sustained effort, institutional backing, and collaborative engagement to transform the workshop’s outcomes into globally competitive research outputs.

He lauded the participants for their active involvement and meaningful contributions, encouraging them to become advocates for research writing excellence within their institutions.

Co-facilitator, Dr. Sola Edagbami of the Department of Computer Science reiterated the workshop’s train-the-trainer approach, urging participants to replicate the training within their respective universities, thereby amplifying its impact.

The 5-day workshop was spearheaded by Dr. Sola Edagbami under a seed grant awarded by STEM-Africa, African Studies Centre (ASC), University of Michigan. The project received additional support from the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS), and Department of Computer Sciences, UNILAG.
