Participants and facilitators of Executive Master of Urban Logistics and Transport Management alongside Doctor of Urban Logistics and Transport Management programmes at the University of Lagos Business School (ULBS), recently embarked on a study field trip to the Logistics activities of Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base (LADOL) and Lekki Free Zone.
The field trip was designed to connect theory with practice, deepen understanding of offshore supply chains, gain professional exposure, and develop skills for solving real-world logistics challenges.
Led by the Programme Coordinator, Associate Professor of Transport Planning and Logistics, Dr. Olayinka Agunloye, the team assembled at the LADOL Jetty at Ikoyi where they were ferried to the company after they had dressed in life jackets and undergone necessary safety procedures, as well as detailed briefing on security, and logistics activities.

They were also familiarized with the safety and security rules that have been instrumental to achieving the company’s record of zero casualties of the last 12 years.
The participants were accorded a guided tour of the company’s warehouse facilities, and other state-of-the-art infrastructure including the warehouse management software application and the First-In-First-Out (FIFO) operations deployed by LADOL. They also observed cold chain logistics facilities that ensure temperature-sensitive items and equipment are preserved under the right conditions. The experience highlighted the complexity and sensitivity of logistics management in specialized sectors

The UNILAG Business School participants were taken through practical core logistics functions such as transportation, warehousing, order processing, and information management using advanced IT systems. The exercise provided a practical understanding of the benefits of an integrated logistics system, thereby reinforcing participants’ classroom learning with real-world applications.

The study tour served as a professional learning opportunity and a practical reinforcement of theoretical concepts, equipping participants with knowledge and insights applicable to their careers in logistics and transport management.
