The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Senate, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, honoured Professor Janet Ngozi Ajuluchukwu ahead of her retirement from university service, as she clocks 70 years old on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Muyiwa Falaiye, in his capacity as the Acting Chairperson of the October Senate Meeting, read the citation of Professor Janet Ajuluchukwu who was unavoidably absent.
In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, Professor Olufemi Adetola Fasanmade who represented Professor Ajuluchukwu expressed gratitude to the University Senate for celebrating the illustrious academic. He noted that Professor Ajuluchukwu would be greatly missed due to her passion and commitment to medical education, training and mentoring.
Born on November 6, 1955; Professor Janet Ajuluchukwu holds a MBBS degree from the University of Lagos, and a Master of Medicine [M.Med (Melbourne)] degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia. Following her successful completion of post-graduate training in 1993, she was awarded the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College, Nigeria (FMCP).
Professor Ajuluchukwu joined the services of University of Lagos in 1997 as Lecturer I and rose through the rank to become a Professor in 2012. She has served the University judiciously in many roles including Head, Department of Medicine (2014-2017); Chairman of UNILAG Medical Centre Board; Chairman, CMUL Medical Board and Head, Cardiology-B Unit of the Department of Medicine, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
Professor Ajuluchukwu is an external Examiner to several Nigerian Medical schools. She is a trainer/examiner to the Nigerian National Postgraduate College; member, Jesuit Tertiary Education Commission; Program Director to Cardiovascular Education Foundation (USA); and former member of Expert Committee for Non-Communicable Disease of the Federal Ministry of Health; among others. She is an elected member of the American College of Physicians, and Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and Fellow of the Nigerian Cardiac Society.
With over eighty five (85) publications in peer-reviewed journals; Professor Ajuluchukwu’s academic research interest is the ‘HEART’, including hypertension and heart failure. Her current research focus is Men’s Heart-Health – as a strategy for prevention of widowhood.
On the family-front, Professor Ajuluchukwu is a sister, friend, mother and grand-mother to a loving and beloved family.
