UNILAG SPGS Ends 2025 with Workshop, Staff Retreat

The School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), University of Lagos (UNILAG), on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, held a One-Day Workshop and End of the Year Retreat for its staff members.

According to the Dean of SPGS, UNILAG, Professor Abraham Osinubi, the exercise marks another bold step by SPGS to go beyond procedures, titles and routines to promote the right attitude, character and mindset among members of staff.

While reaffirming his commitment towards consolidating the status of the School of Postgraduate Studies as a world class and service oriented centre, Prof. Osinubi said the one-day workshop will help participants enhance their soft skills in effective communication, emotional intelligence, ethical conduct, team spirit, time management, adaptability and conflict resolution.

His words “…this workshop has been designed to equip you with not only insights but also with practical tools that you can apply in the discharge of your daily tasks as faces of this school…”

The workshop, themed Administration and Professionalism in the Workplace, was formally declared open by the University Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Victoria Abosede Wickliffe.

Mrs Wickliffe commended the choice of the theme of the workshop as it aligns with her mission statement for the UNILAG Registry.

Her remarks offered salient measures to promote administrative excellence and professionalism in the University of Lagos and by extension, in formal settings. Mrs Wickliffe implored participants at the workshop to recommit to ethics, professionalism and responsibility in the discharge of their duties.

She also harped on the need for open mindedness, commitment to continuous learning, cultivation of the right attitude, fairness, cooperation and collaboration among members of staff to ensure personal development, continued relevance and professionalism in service delivery.

Facilitators at the one day workshop were:
Dr. Adegboyega Ehinmowo, Immediate Past Sub-Dean, (SPGS) who spoke on “Student Experience: The Role of Soft and Engagement Skills”,

Dr. Aliu Soyingbe, Acting Sub-Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS) who spoke on “Work Ethics: Enhancing Integrity and Building Lasting Trust” and

Mr. Akinwunmi Abolade, Deputy Registrar/Director, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos who spoke on “Essential Skills for Effective University Professional Administrator”.

A major highlight of the One-Day Workshop and End of the Year Retreat was the announcement of Olaoluyinka Damilola Shoremekun (Senior Assistant Registrar) as winner of the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS) First Responder Award in acknowledgment and celebration of her pro-activeness, diligence, discretion and initiative all through the year 2025.
