UNILAG Management Meets Lagos CP, Seeks Stronger Security Collaboration

The Management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, at the Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force in Ikeja.

Speaking during the visit, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, who led the delegation, stated that the engagement was aimed at appreciating the Lagos State Police Command for its longstanding cordial relationship with the University, as well as strengthening collaboration to enhance campus security.

Professor Ogunsola congratulated the Commissioner of Police on his recent deployment to Lagos State and wished him success in his new role. She also called for sustained support and cooperation from the Command to further reinforce the University’s security architecture.

Highlighting key areas of concern, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the need for increased police intervention in addressing the menace of land grabbers; curbing cult-related activities, particularly those originating from neighbouring institutions; and tackling cases of online fraud, especially impersonation scams involving members of the University community.

She also informed the Police Command of academic opportunities within the Security and Counter-Terrorism programme domiciled in the University’s Faculty of Law, noting its relevance to contemporary security challenges.

In his response, CP Fatai expressed appreciation to the UNILAG Management for the visit and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining a strong and productive relationship with the University community.

Addressing the issues raised, the Commissioner assured the delegation that the Marine Division of the Lagos State Police Command would intensify surveillance around the University environment. He further assured the University of unhindered access to the Command and other adjoining police formations to strengthen the protection of lives and property on campus, while sustaining law and order.

Tijani Olaiwola Fatai assumed office as the 42nd Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, on March 26, 2026.
