The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has reaffirmed its commitment to student development, leadership, and responsible citizenship following a courtesy visit by the Lagos State Commander of Man O’ War Nigeria, Mr. Ayodele Jonathan Ajayi, on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
Mr. Ajayi and his team, including the leadership of the UNILAG Man O’ War unit, were received on the 10th floor of the Senate House by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Foluso Ebun Afolabi Lesi, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS.

The State Commander said the visit was aimed at strengthening the longstanding relationship between Man O’ War Nigeria and the University. According to him, the objectives of the visit included introducing the new Lagos State Command leadership, deepening institutional collaboration, and exploring areas of mutual interest such as student engagement, leadership and paramilitary training, campus safety support, and community development.
Commending UNILAG for its sustained support, Mr. Ajayi appealed to Management to sponsor the training of UNILAG cadets in Abuja and support the procurement of uniforms for members.
Responding, Professor Lesi congratulated Mr. Ajayi on his recent appointment. He acknowledged Man O’ War’s impact, noting that the organisation is widely recognized for promoting discipline, leadership development, and character building; qualities evident in many of its members within the university community.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor assured the delegation that UNILAG remains committed to engaging with student organisations to understand their needs and enhance their welfare and development. He said the requests presented had been carefully noted and assured them of the University’s support within available resources.
According to Professor Lesi, the Vice-Chancellor remains passionate about youth development and is committed to creating opportunities for students to reach their full potential. Citing her student-centred approach, Professor Lesi referenced the restoration of the Students’ Union after years of proscription and the University’s continued support for student leaders through leadership programmes and engagements at the Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute.

He assured the delegation that all issues raised would be communicated to the Vice-Chancellor for consideration, and reiterated UNILAG’s commitment to improving student welfare and fostering an environment conducive to leadership growth and responsible citizenship.
