The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Senate, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, held a valedictory session to celebrate Professor Ezechiel Oladapo Longe of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering as he officially bows out of active University Service on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Foluso Afolabi-Lesi, who presided as Acting Chairperson, read the citation of Professor Longe. On behalf of UNILAG Senate, staff and students, he congratulated Professor Longe for his illustrious service and contributions to the University and the nation at large.


In response, Professor Longe expressed gratitude to God, the University Senate and UNILAG community for providing an enabling environment for growth, and career fulfillment.
Citation of Professor Ezechiel Oladapo Longe
Born on June 25, 1956 in Ibadan, Nigeria, Professor Ezechiel Oladapo Longe is a distinguished Nigerian academic, researcher, and Professor of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering whose career spans over three decades of excellence in teaching, research, consultancy, and public service.
He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Obafemi Awolowo University (formerly the University of Ife), Ile-Ife, in 1981, and a Master of Science degree in Applied Geology, specializing in Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology, from the same institution in 1984. He later earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Civil Engineering, specializing in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, from the Université des Sciences et Techniques du Languedoc, Montpellier, France, in 1989.
His research interests include groundwater hydraulics, contaminant transport in coastal aquifers, geo-hydrological impacts of landfill operations, integrated water resources management, and environmental sustainability. He has published extensively in reputable local and international journals and conference proceedings, with notable studies on the hydrogeology of Lagos, groundwater resource potential in the Coastal Plain Sands Aquifers, and water supply in rural coastal communities.
Professor Longe’s academic career has been closely associated with the University of Lagos, where has distinguished himself in teaching, curriculum development, postgraduate supervision, and university administration. He has supervised numerous postgraduate students, including several doctoral candidates.
He has also served as an external examiner to several universities within and outside Nigeria, contributing significantly to academic quality assurance and postgraduate education.


Beyond academia, Professor Longe has provided consultancy services to Federal Ministries responsible for Water Resources, Health, and Environment, State Environmental Protection Agencies, and international organizations engaged in water resources development. He has served on national and international technical committees, including the National Water Council, UNICEF, UNESCO, and as President of the West Africa Sub-Regional Technical Committee of the Global Water Partnership (GWP/WA), where he promoted sustainable water governance and regional cooperation.
A respected professional, Professor Longe is a Fellow of the Nigerian Association of Hydrological Sciences (NAHS) and a member of the Council of Mining Engineering and Geoscientists (COMEG), the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), and an Associate Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
An ordained minister of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, he serves as a District Overseer and Axis Coordinator, reflecting his commitment to faith and community service.
Professor Ezechiel Oladapo Longe is married to Dr. (Mrs.) Olubukola Longe, an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Foundations, UNILAG and they are blessed with children.
