UNILAG Education Faculty Welcomes New Students, Charges Them to Pursue Academic Excellence

The Faculty of Education, University of Lagos (UNILAG), has held an orientation session for newly admitted students of its Sandwich Programme under the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), UNILAG.

The orientation, held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Faculty Auditorium, provided the new students with essential information on academic expectations, programmes, and opportunities available within the University.

Welcoming the students, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Joseph Olayinka Awoyinfa congratulated them on their admission, describing it as both a privilege and a responsibility.

He disclosed that Sandwich students would henceforth be recognised as full-fledged UNILAG students, with the “Sandwich” designation removed from their certificates.

Prof. Awoyinfa urged the students to embrace hard work, discipline, and academic excellence. He also encouraged them to balance their studies effectively with other responsibilities throughout their three- to five-year programmes.

A former Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Simeon Adebayo Oladapo described UNILAG as a unique and prestigious institution, and encouraged the students to actively participate in the University community.

Prof. Oladapo explained that the Faculty had eight departments, each headed by a Head of Department, offering a wide range of academic programmes and opportunities for students.

In his presentation, the guest lecturer, Dr. Lekan Jacob Adeyanju stressed the importance of effective communication, time management, and mentorship to achieving academic success.

Dr. Adeyanju urged the students to make full use of the academic and other resources available to them within the University. He cited the achievements of recent graduates as evidence of the opportunities available to students who apply themselves diligently to their studies.

Heads of various departments within the Faculty were also present to introduce their respective programmes and highlight the benefits and opportunities associated with each area of study.

Among the dignitaries at the event were, Prof. Osarenren, Dr. Sabina Akinoso, Dr. Akeem Adekunle, Dr. A. R. Okudo and Dr. G. Ajibola.
