Blended Meeting of Congregation Holds, Sept. 19

Pursuant to Article 4 (2), Fourth Schedule of the University of Lagos Act, 1967, the Vice Chancellor and Chairman of Congregation has directed that a Blended meeting of Congregation be scheduled as follows:

Date:               Friday, September 19, 2025

Time:              11.00 a.m. prompt

Venue:        J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium

AGENDA:

  1. Adoption of Agenda
  2. Reading and Adoption of Congregation Minutes of Meeting held on Thursday, September 12, 2024
  3. Vice Chancellor’s Address
  4. Comments from members
  5. Election of Congregation Representative into Council – Congregation Paper No. 2025/001
  6. Any Other Business

Furthermore, the university community is requested to note the May 24, 1967 Resolution of Senate on membership and functions of Congregation which states that:

“In addition to members of Congregation as provided for in the statues, the following shall be deemed members of Congregation:  All graduate members of the Library, the Administrative and Technical Staff, and the holders of other posts as and approved by Senate from time to time”

In addition, the June 29, 2016 Resolution of Senate on membership of Congregation provides thus:

            “Senate affirmed its position that only a first degree (University degree) shall suffice for eligibility into congregation. Senate rejected via a voice note the acceptance of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in addition to a Master’s degree as a criterion for eligibility into Congregation”.

PROCEDURE FOR THE ELECTION OF REPRESENTATIVE(S) OF CONGREGATION ON STATUTORY BODIES

Further to the Vice Chancellor’s approval that the meeting of Congregation be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 11.00a.m., the procedure for the election of representative(s) of Congregation on the Council, shall be as follows:

  1. Members of Congregation are to confirm their eligibility on the Congregation register as provided by HRMD on the University website (www.unilag.edu.ng) from Friday, September 5, 2025 to Friday, September 12, 2025, by typing their UNILAG email address in the space provided.
  2. Persons with complaints on eligibility are advised to interface with the Deputy Registrar, HRMD between Wednesday, September 10, 2025 and Friday, September 12, 2025.
  3. Resolved cases on eligibility shall be forwarded by HRMD to CITS through the Senate and Ceremonies Unit for update not later than 4:00p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
  4. Interested candidates for elective position should download nomination form from the University website or alternatively pick nomination form from their respective Faculties/Departments/Units.
  5.  Photograph of the proposed candidate should be glued or cellotaped (not stapled with pin) on the Proposal Form.
  6. Hardcopy of the completed Nomination Form should be submitted at the Senate & Ceremonies Unit not later than 10:00a.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
  7. The list of duly nominated persons into the elective position as representative of Congregation shall be displayed on the University website as from 7:00p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
  8. Blended Meeting of Congregation shall hold at 11.00a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025. Accreditation and voting shall be electronic followed by elections.
  9. The link/pass code to join the blended meeting shall be received in the UNILAG email addresses of members.

E-VOTING EXERCISE

The procedure for the Electronic voting is as follows:

i    It is mandatory for members to have access to their UNILAG email addresses.

ii  Access to the virtual platform for the meeting of Congregation shall open at 10.45a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025.  To avoid a breach of the procedure on technical grounds, the blended meeting of  Congregation must have been duly constituted (quorate) before the commencement of the meeting. Members are therefore enjoined to attend punctually.

iii   The link/pass code for the virtual meeting shall be batched and the groupings shall be forwarded through UNILAG email addresses to members of Congregation not later than Thursday, September 18, 2025.

iv    E-voting shall commence immediately after the conclusion of the meeting of Congregation.

v    Eligible voters shall receive access code to the voting platform in their UNILAG email addresses from 8. a.m on Friday, September 19, 2025 and shall proceed to vote on the voting platform from 1.00p.m. to 3.00 p.m.

vi   The principle of ‘one man, one vote’ shall subsist, thus, eligible voters can only vote once.

vii  Members shall login to the electronic voting portal to make their choices of preferred candidates.                    Voters shall click submit on the electronic voting portal on selection of their choice candidate(s).

viii The candidate(s) for election or their nominee(s) (representatives) may be present at the “Control Room” in ABS-CITS during the period of voting to monitor the election as it progresses. The candidates are to submit in writing their nominees (representatives) to the Senate and Ceremonies Unit not later than 10a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

ix  Complaints during e-voting should be forwarded to cits[email protected].

x  Results of elections shall be displayed/announced on the University website on conclusion of the e-voting exercise.

Members of Congregation without UNILAG email address/password cannot vote during the election. Kindly ensure you have access to your email address.
