The University of Lagos, Nigeria (UNILAG) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for appointment to the Engr. Seke Somolu Professorial Chair in Electric Power Engineering in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
A. Role Description
The occupant of the Engr. Seke Somolu Professorial Chair in Electric Power Engineering will be expected to:
- Teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
- Conduct research in specialized areas of Electric Power Engineering.
- Organize public lectures and strengthen collaboration between industry and academia through the application of research findings.
B. Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic excellence and intellectual merit in the field of Electric Power Engineering. Specifically, candidates must have:
- A good first degree in a relevant field and a Ph.D. in Electric Power Engineering.
- At least ten (10) years of teaching and research experience after appointment as Lecturer I in a university or comparable institution.
- A minimum of three (3) years as Associate Professor or six (6) years as Senior Lecturer.
- Sustained record of analytical and experimental research in Electric Power Engineering.
- At least three (3) publications in IEEE Transactions related to Electric Power Engineering.
- Attendance and presentations at a minimum of three (3) IEEE international conferences in the field.
- Substantial scholarly publications in reputable national and international journals.
- Evidence of ability to supervise Master’s and Doctoral students.
- Academic leadership, administrative experience, ICT competence, and proven integrity.
C. Remuneration
The appointment attracts an enhanced salary package (CONUASS 7 plus 20% mark-up) and the following allowances:
- Transport allowance
- Research allowance
- Journal allowance
- Learned society subscription allowance
- Local travel allowance
- Books and periodicals allowance
- Housing allowance
- Conferences/lectures allowance
D. Tenure
The appointment to the Professorial Chair shall be for a term of two (2) years. At the discretion of the Board of Trustees, the term may be extended for a further period not exceeding one (1) year.
