The need for model leadership, ethical conduct, integrity, collaboration and fairness in all endeavor, formed the crux of discussions at the special event organised by the Department of Marine Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Lagos (UNILAG) to celebrate International Youth Day 2025.


The event which was held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the Faculty of Science Board Room, had the theme: Y outh Advancing Multilateral Cooperation through Technology and Partnerships . It had in attendance members of Faculty and students of the departments of Marine Sciences as well as Fisheries and Aquaculture.
In their separate remarks to set the tone for the celebration, Professor Ikenna Onyema (Head, Department of Marine Sciences) alongside Professor Simeon Ayoola (Head, Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture) congratulated the students on the 2025 International Youth Day celebration, and described the event as a token of the faculty’s dedication towards buttressing the importance of fisheries/ocean literacy, environmental stewardship and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.



A senior lecturer at the Lagos Business School of Pan Atlantic University, Margaret Isebor, addressed the students on the indispensability of model leadership, integrity, fairness, responsible followership, ethical conducts and collaboration in building a virile, just and equitable society. She implored the students to embrace the right values and speak up against injustice so as to build the right society.
The event was also graced by Italian-Nigerian born Sports fishing icon, Fabio Beccareli who addressed the students on the potentials in fisheries and marine sciences.
