The Director of the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS), Research Professor Luqman Ayodele Yusuff, has been conferred Fellow of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria (FLAN).
The honour was bestowed on him at the 36th Conference of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria, held at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to Linguistics, Language Documentation, and African Studies. His conferment with the Fellowship underscores his sustained dedication to advancing linguistic scholarship and preserving Nigeria’s diverse languages and cultures.
Professor Yusuf, who is also the first Research Professor at the University of Lagos, served as Lead Paper Presenter at the conference, delivering a paper titled: “Digitising Diversity: Embracing Innovation towards the Preservation of Nigerian Languages in a Digital Era.” The paper highlighted the need for strategic digital approaches to safeguarding Nigeria’s linguistic heritage in an increasingly digital world.
