ULWS Bids Farewell to Outgoing Headmistress with Flair and Gratitude

The University of Lagos Women Society (ULWS) Nursery and Primary School celebrated the retirement of its Headmistress, Mrs. Abimbola Motunrayo Afolabi, at a warm and colourful farewell ceremony held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the School Hall.

In her welcome remarks, President of the ULWS, Dr. (Mrs.) Taiwo Ipaye, expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for the successful completion of Mrs. Afolabi’s tenure, during which the school recorded remarkable progress. She noted that “Mrs. Afolabi retired honourably, not as a result of dismissal”, and wished her divine guidance and success in her next chapter.

Similarly in her remarks, Former ULWS President, Mrs. Fatimot Bello, lauded the commitment of the outgoing headmistress to raising the school to international standards, describing her as a compassionate leader who genuinely cared for her pupils. Reflecting on their time working closely together, she praised Mrs. Afolabi’s reliability, teachability, and dedication.

Dr. (Mrs.) Odunlade, Vice-President II of the ULWS, also paid tribute to the outgoing Headmistress, describing her as diligent, respectful, and true to her word. She prayed for God’s continued favour upon Mrs. Afolabi and her family.

A long-time acquaintance, Mrs. Odekunle, gave a nostalgic tribute, recalling their years of friendship since childhood. She commended Mrs. Afolabi’s kind heart and urged her to continue building on her strengths, offering prayers for divine blessings in her future.

In a touching goodwill message, her elder brother, Mr. Gbenga, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Afolabi for her selfless dedication to the mission and growth of the ULWS. He thanked all who supported her and acknowledged her outstanding contributions, wishing her a fulfilling future.

Mrs. Afolabi’s children also delivered a moving tribute, describing their mother as loving, energetic, and responsible; a true role model both at home and in her career.

The event drew a distinguished audience, including the Representative of the Registrar, Mrs. Aderonke Asiwaju (Director of the Staff Training and Development Centre); former ULWS Board Member, Professor Temitope Onumiya; current ULWS Board and Executive members, parents, and other esteemed guests.
