The Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, on Thursday, October 22, 2025, hosted a memorial service in honour of the late Prof. Christy Owolemi Omotuyole, a distinguished scholar of Early Childhood Education.
The service, held at the Glasshouse, Faculty of Education, featured a commendation session, hymns, and special musical renditions celebrating the remarkable life and legacy of Prof. Omotuyole, who passed away on September 12, 2024, at the age of 58.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics & Research), Prof. Bolanle Oboh, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, at the event, delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late academic. She described Prof. Omotuyole as “a committed teacher and mentor whose influence on students and colleagues endures.”

Prof. Oboh prayed for God’s comfort upon the bereaved family and the Faculty of Education.
In his remarks, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. Adebayo Simeon Oladipo, described the occasion as “a celebration of a life that illuminated many others.” He highlighted Prof. Omotuyole’s profound impact as a scholar, mentor, and advocate for children’s rights, noting that her dedication to early childhood education and the welfare of underserved communities will continue to inspire generations.

The Head of the Department of Social Science Education, Prof. Sarah Sopekan, extolled the late professor’s diligence and invaluable contributions to the department, particularly during its accreditation process. She prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul.

Similarly, the Director of the Distance Learning Institute, Prof. Riskat Dauda, described Prof. Omotuyole as a hardworking and dependable academic, recalling her active participation in the Institute’s last Colloquium shortly before her passing.

Other tributes came from colleagues, including Mrs. Fatodu of the Department of Social Science Education, who described Prof. Omotuyole as a woman of exceptional grace and character whose influence will live on in the lives she touched.


Speaking on behalf of the family, Pastor David Omotuyole recounted his last conversation with the deceased and affirmed that the glowing tributes mirrored her true nature.

Delivering a short sermon titled “Time and Life,” Pastor Adeyemi Opeoluwa of The Covenant Nation Church encouraged attendees to find comfort in the assurance of eternal life. He described Prof. Omotuyole as “a woman who completed her divine assignment and left behind a Christ-like legacy.”

The event was attended by Heads of Departments within the Faculty including Prof. Ronke Ojo (Adult Education), Prof. Ngozi Okafor (Science Education), Prof. Ngozi E. Uzoka (Educational Management), Prof. Jimoh Jelili Adebayo (Technological and Vocational Education), Prof. Lukman Adedeji (Arts Education), and Prof. Adesoji Adetolu Oni (Educational Foundations) as well as Dr. Adetoun Gladys Emiola (Sub-Dean, Faculty of Education) and the Levites Choir of The Covenant Nation Church, among others.
