The Lagos State Agency for Mass Education has formally recognised the outstanding contributions of the Director, Centre for General Studies, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Blessing E. Anyikwa, to literacy, adult education and lifelong learning in Lagos State.

Professor Anyikwa, a Professor of Adult Basic and Non-Formal Education, received the Award of Recognition on Thursday, September 3, 2026. The award acknowledges her remarkable commitment to advancing Adult and Mass Education through nearly two decades of sustained partnership with the Agency, capacity development initiatives, community engagement and sector leadership. The Agency noted that her exemplary service has impacted countless learners, strengthened educational opportunities at the grassroots level, and advanced the cause of literacy as a tool for personal and societal transformation.

A distinguished scholar and advocate for inclusive education, Professor Anyikwa has trained adult education facilitators across Lagos State, provided expert consultancy to community education centres, established and donated literacy centres to underserved communities, and contributed significantly to national and international literacy initiatives through engagements with UNESCO and the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC).
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, on behalf of the Senate, staff and students, commends Professor Anyikwa for this well-deserved honour, which reflects her professionalism, dedication, leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence.
