On Thursday, July 17, 2025, the Director of the Centre for General Studies (GST), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Aderonke Lawal-Are, led a delegation of staff of the Centre on a courtesy visit to Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, to express appreciation following the resounding success of the inaugural GST Day, which held on July 8, 2025.
During the visit, Prof. Lawal-Are acknowledged the event’s impact on participants and possible areas of improvement in future editions. She also expressed deep gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for her unwavering support of the event, right from the conception stage.

In response, Professor Ogunsola commended the Director and her team for their visionary work in enriching student experiences beyond traditional curricula.
As a gesture of appreciation, Prof. Lawal-Are presented the Vice-Chancellor with a commemorative plaque to reflect the Centre’s gratitude for the institutional support that helped establish GST Day as a flagship event at UNILAG.
Held at the Nurudeen Alao Auditorium of the Distance Learning Institute on July 8 2025, the maiden edition of GST Day brought its theme: The Future of e-Learning to Life through a vibrant mix of academic competitions, creative performances, and wellness-focused activities.
A highlight of the day was a dynamic quiz contest that featured twenty-six (26) participants with two representatives from each faculty and the Distance Learning Institute. That competition was won by the duo of Aisha Temitope Disu and Oluwatunji Olasunkanmi Amos, who are representatives of the Faculty of Law.
