The Chinese Unit of the Department of Linguistics, African and Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Hunan University, Changsha, Hunan, China, have agreed to launch programmes and projects which would facilitate exchange opportunities, knowledge growth and capacity building for students and members of faculty.


During a physical meeting of representatives of UNILAG and Hunan University, China on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the Office of the Dean, Faculty of Arts, UNILAG, the Chinese delegation expressed readiness to hit the ground running with different academic and entrepreneurial programmes, tailored towards six (6) thematic areas: Agriculture, Manufacturing, Capacity building, Power sector development, Mineral resources as well as Oil and Gas. The Chinese delegation also requested for UNILAG student-interns for immediate engagements.
Leader of the Chinese delegation, Li Zhensheng disclosed that Hunan University will be working with UNILAG with a view to grooming talents in Hi-Tech, management and administration and vocational areas which are ingredients to driving a viable economy.


In response, the Dean of Faculty of Arts, Professor Mudashir Ilupeju who led the UNILAG delegation expressed delight over the engagement and potential benefits for students, members of faculty, the generality of staff and general public when it becomes fully operational. He passed a vote of confidence that the proposed partnership between UNILAG and Hunan University, China, will be another significant milestone which will lend credence to UNILAG as a Future-Ready University.
Prof. Ilupeju emphasized the faculty’s keen interest in promoting the interests and prospects of students and faculty members while also ensuring the visibility of the Faculty of Arts and the University of Lagos at large. He applauded the blossoming partnership between Nigeria and China Africa Economic Corporation especially in view of the ease often enjoyed when formulating and implementing Memoranda of Understanding.
