The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has recorded another significant academic milestone with the establishment of a Professorial Chair on Leadership and Good Governance, further strengthening its commitment to advancing scholarship, research, and policy engagement in critical areas of national development.
Domiciled in the Department of Political Science, the Chair was instituted following the successful launch of a book and endowment initiative by UNILAG Consult Limited (UCL) on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
The Chair is established in honour of the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, in recognition of his contributions to public service, leadership, and democratic governance.
The initiative is designed to advance teaching, research, scholarship, and policy engagement in the field of leadership and governance, while fostering intellectual discourse and innovative solutions to contemporary public policy challenges.
Supported by an endowment, the Professorial Chair will provide a platform for scholars, policymakers, and students to engage on critical issues of leadership and governance, reinforcing the University’s commitment to academic excellence, knowledge creation, and national development.
