The University of Lagos chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Visually Impaired Students (NANVIS) held the 4th edition of its annual flagship event: Making a Difference: Championing Inclusion and Post-School Preparedness for Visually Impaired Students, on Friday, July 25, 2025.

The event, which took place at the Prof. Rahamon Adisa Bello Hall, brought together key stakeholders to inspire and empower visually impaired students while promoting a more inclusive academic environment.
In his goodwill message, the University Librarian, Prof. Christopher Okiki, who was represented by Mrs. Blessing Okpah, commended NANVIS for organising the event. He assured students of the Library’s unwavering support, particularly in providing both digital and manual resources tailored to their needs.

Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Dean II of the Student Affairs Division, Dr. Abdulganiu Iyanda, praised the students’ determination in pursuing academic excellence. He encouraged them to become role models and wished them continued success in their journey.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Paul Adejuwon of Missouri State University emphasised the critical roles of resilience, confidence, and skill acquisition in the lives of visually impaired students. He urged them to stay true to their dreams and invest in self-development to stand out in society.

Another speaker at the event, Miss Oluwakemi Odusanya from Project Enable Africa stressed the need to expand empowerment and employment opportunities for persons with visual impairment. She encouraged the students to harness the power of technology to build skills and showcase their capabilities, regardless of perceived limitations.

Other notable attendees included Mr. Ademola Abejide, a coach with the Lagos State Paralympic Commission; and Miss Oluwayemisi from Alternative Bank.
