The University of Lagos has reiterated its commitment to fostering a safe and secure learning environment as it welcomed a delegation of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Area C Command, Lagos State, on a courtesy visit on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
The delegation, acting on the instruction of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Muyiwa Falaiye, FNAL on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS.
Led by the National Vice Chairman (South-West Zone), Prince Sunny Yemi Adenowo, JP, and Chairman of Area C, Rotarian Akibu Bankole, the team included two prominent members of the UNILAG community: Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Physical Sciences, Prof. Olayinka Asekun, and Director of the Centre for General Studies, Prof. Aderonke Lawal-Are.

The purpose of the visit was twofold: to recognize the institution’s strides in maintaining a crime-free campus and upholding academic excellence, and to explore avenues of collaboration in hosting security awareness and prevention programmes.
In particular, the PCRC requested UNILAG’s support in hosting the South-West Youth Security Summit, a one-day event slated for 2026 that will bring together students from tertiary institutions across the region to deepen conversations on security and crime prevention.
Prof. Falaiye, in his response, warmly welcomed the PCRC team, pledged to deliver their message to the Vice-Chancellor, and assured them of the University’s readiness to collaborate.

“You are in the right place. UNILAG is a very security-conscious institution. With a very efficient Security Unit, backed with a 24-hour camera surveillance system, we have an integrated security architecture that leaves nothing to chance and makes the University of Lagos one of the safest places in Lagos. We are a very responsive university,” he said.
He further encouraged Professors Asekun and Lawal-Are to consider establishing a PCRC branch on campus, assuring them of the University’s robust support.

The visit marks a fresh step in strengthening partnerships between UNILAG and external stakeholders committed to youth development, safety, and community peace.
