The maiden edition of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Registry Week came to a close on Thursday, November 6, 2025, with a resounding call for enhanced professionalism, digital literacy, and ethical reorientation among administrative staff.
All roads led to Nurudeen Alao Auditorium, Distance Learning Institute (DLI), UNILAG for the Maiden UNILAG Registry Week Lecture, the grand finale of the week-long celebration.






The event brought together registry professionals, management staff, and experts from within and outside UNILAG including Registrars and delegates from the Lagos State University, Ojo; Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Ikorodu: Lagos State University of Education, Ijanikin; Trinity University; Mountain Top University and other institutions.
They were all on ground to identify with UNILAG Registry in the spirit of the celebration.
Welcoming Participants
Welcoming participants to the UNILAG Registry Week Lecture, the Registrar, Mrs Victoria Wickliffe stressed the need to reposition the registry as a digitally driven, ethically grounded, and service-oriented arm of the institution.


Mrs Wickliffe described the lecture as a demonstration of the UNILAG Registry’s avowed commitment to efforts aimed at “re-defining professionalism and administrative excellence, not just for now but for the future of UNILAG”.
While appreciating the university management led by Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, for its immense investment in capacity building and staff development, the Registrar and host of the event assured of the continued readiness of UNILAG registry staff, to keep driving the ongoing digital revolution in the university.
Mrs. Wickliffe charged the rank and file of the university registry to eschew resistance to change, and embrace innovation. She harped on integrity, and the need for creativity, agility, pro-activeness and accountability to be the order day.
Words from the Vice-Chancellor
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, congratulated UNILAG Registry led by the Registrar, Mrs. Victoria Wickliffe, on the maiden Registry Week. She applauded the sense of unity as evident in the mood and vibes which permeated all the activities that made up the UNILAG Registry Week celebration.
Prof. Ogunsola lauded the theme of the lecture, adding that it was a call to excellence and professionalism. She described the event as one which underscored collaboration rather than competition as the game-changer for ivory towers.


The Professor of Medical Microbiology reiterated the indispensability of value addition at every point of call. She implored registry staff, to embrace personal development, shun their comfort zones, and open up to new innovations, ideas, knowledge and attitude needed to excel personally and professionally.
In his remarks as chairman of the event, immediate Past Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Management Services), UNILAG, Professor Lucian Obinna Chukwu, congratulated members of the Registry, on the maiden UNILAG Registry Week celebration. He adjudged the event as “a call to action to embrace the mindset, skills and tools needed to achieve and drive excellence in the 21st century university”.


Professor Chukwu described the roles of registry staff as indispensable in any institution, hence the need for discipline, efficiency and digital literacy. He advocated a culture of innovation and a system which queries old practices, tries new ideas and leverages technology wisely.
He also implored UNILAG Registry staff to foster seamless interactions, professionalism, digital literacy, continuous learning and team work.
The Registry Week Lecture
Titled: Excellence in University Administration: the imperatives of Professionalism and Digital Literacy, the Guest lecturer, Mr Akinwunmi Oladapo Lewis identified Digital literacy as a fundamental competence for all administrators to grow from support staff to strategic leadership.
According to the former Registrar, Lagos State University, Ojo, digital literacy will not only displace manual processes but also promote transparency and efficiency. He said digital literacy will equally aid foundational technical skills and promote capacities of administrators to generate innovative ideas for institutional growth and development.


Mr Lewis stressed the need for university administrators to evolve and embrace their roles as collaborators and critical stakeholders in the running of a viable university system.
While decrying the daunting effects of inadequate funding, incessant industrial disputes and erosion of institutional culture on the quality of university registry, the guest lecturer called for a re-commitment to the following pillars of Registry administration:
- Integrity and Ethical conducts,
- Confidentiality,
- Competence and Continuous learning, as well as
- Rule based Decision making
Launch of Registry Sentinel
The highpoint of the UNILAG Registry Week Lecture included the launching of the Registry Magazine, Registry Sentinel by dignitaries and Victor Sodje (Managing Director, New Cross Exploration and Production Limited) who served was the Chief Launcher.






The celebration also featured the presentation of plaques as tokens of appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS; Guest Lecturer, Mr Akinwunmi Oladapo Lewis; and Chairman of the Maiden UNILAG Registry Lecture, Prof. Lucian Obinna Chukwu.
