Hearty cheers to four students of the Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos (UNILAG) who emerged 2nd place winners at PetroCup Africa League 2025, a component of the Petroleum World Student Olympics (PWSO) series. They are:
- Johnpaul Ebubechukwu Okeke (500L)
- Ugonna Ogoke (500L)
- Onyinye Ezeoke (500L)
- Marvellous Oyegbile (Graduate)
The exceptional UNILAG team, the only team selected to represent Nigeria in the competition, competed against student teams from leading oil and gas universities across Africa. Eight (8) top teams from Algeria, Egypt, and Nigeria participated in the Grand Final of the Africa League, which was held on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
With the win, UNILAG along with Suez University, Egypt (1st place winner) and British University, Egypt (3rd place winner) have qualified for the PWSO 2025 Finals, where they will face the best from other regions around the world and compete for the N.N. Neprimerov Cup.
The World Student Olympics is an innovative approach in oil and gas education and a unique analytical technology simulator, where players plan and develop oil fields in a virtual reality setting. It is tailored towards senior oil and gas university students in the following degree-programmes: Geology, Exploration, Field Development and Oil & Gas Field operation.
