UNILAG Matriculates 387 Students for 2025/2026 Sandwich Programme

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Management on Friday, August 28, 2026, matriculated 387 new students into the 2025/2026 Academic Session of its Sandwich Programme under the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE).

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research), Professor Olusoji Matthew Ilori, represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, at the event which was held at the Faculty of Education Auditorium, UNILAG.

Delivering the Vice-Chancellor’s address, Prof. Ilori congratulated the matriculating students and charged them to see their admission as an opportunity to deepen their knowledge and expand their horizon.

He encouraged them to study smart, embrace social learning, discuss ideas, challenge assumptions, and explore technological tools as avenues for academic enrichment rather than sources of entertainment or distraction.

Drawing attention to the realities of the current national environment, Professor Ilori noted that the country requires a workforce built not merely on certification, but on knowledge, character, practical skills, creativity, discipline, and ethical values.

He urged the students to be solution-driven, acquire relevant skills, and build competencies that will position them as value creators, especially in the contemporary workplace.

His words: “AI will help you explore ideas, analyse information, and improve your productivity, but it must never replace your thinking. Use technology as an assistant, not as a substitute for intellectual effort. Ask questions, verify information, acknowledge the tools you use, and ensure the work you submit truly reflects your own understanding and contribution.”

Professor Ilori reaffirmed the University’s zero tolerance for plagiarism, cheating, examination malpractice, and all other forms of academic misconduct, stressing that integrity is non-negotiable at UNILAG.

He also encouraged the new students to take advantage of the University’s AI Hubs, digital and innovation centres, and other learning resources that can support their academic development and help transform their aspirations into tangible outcomes.

A major highlight of the brief ceremony was the administration of the Matriculation Oath by the Registrar and Secretary to Governing Council, Mrs. Abosede V. Wickliffe, following the formal presentation of the students by the Dean, Faculty of Education, Professor Joseph Awoyinfa.

The 387 new students were admitted into Sandwich Programmes under the following departments:

  • Adult Education;
  • Arts Education;
  • Educational Foundations;
  • Educational Management;
  • Human Kinetics and Health Education;
