Dr. Abiola Akinyode-Afolabi of the Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law, has been re-appointed as Acting Director of the Safeguarding Centre, University of Lagos (UNILAG).The one-year renewal takes effect from Saturday, May 2, 2026 to Saturday, May 1, 2027.
A distinguished legal scholar, gender advocate, and human rights expert, Dr. Akinyode-Afolabi has provided impactful leadership for the Safeguarding Centre, strengthening its mission to promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for members of the University community.
Beyond her academic and administrative responsibilities, she is the founding Director of the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC), an organization widely recognized for advancing women’s rights and providing legal support for victims of violence and abuse. Her contributions to safeguarding, social justice, and human rights advocacy have earned her national and international recognition, including her nomination to the United Nations Spotlight Initiative Global Reference Group.
