University of Lagos (UNILAG) Community let’s come together and vote to bring prestige to our very own, The Health Guardian (THG), in the Rice360° 2026 People’s Choice Awards.

Other people may have luck, but as a UNILAG student, you have something far more powerful; knowledge, ingenuity, skills, and most importantly, COMMUNITY.

Now, let’s show the world what that community can do when it moves as one force by voting en masse for The Health Guardian team as their innovation, AM Detector, competes against numerous other innovations from various universities around the world.

The team, led by Joy Okoi Obasesam, is made up of Emmanuel Awolowo, Chan Lukwagh Bright, Shallom Adebayo, and Isokpunwu Orobosa, students of the University of Lagos from various departments and faculties, working together at the UNILAG Design Studio and Innovation Hub.

These bright minds are proudly representing UNILAG as the only Nigerian team selected as semi-finalists at the Rice360 Global Health Technologies Design Competition in the United States.

Although the notice is short, let’s make the best of the available time between now and 10pm TODAY to bring the prize home as voting closes at 04:00 PM CDT (10:00 PM WAT), Friday, April 24, 2026.

Their innovation, the AM Detector, is a low-cost, portable device designed to detect amniotic fluid leakage early in pregnancy, helping prevent preterm births, infections, and avoidable neonatal deaths. It appears like a simple idea, in a simple device but it has a life-saving impact.

Winning this global recognition depends greatly on public votes. Won’t we work together to help them bring this home? This is the moment for UNILAG to show up loudly and collectively!

Let’s amplify team Health Guardian. Let’s share their story. Let’s vote like a community that understands its power.
